General Data
Description of Line 14 of the Paris Metro:
- Inaugurated in 1998.
- Colour: Lilac.
- Fully automated and driverless.
- Extended to 13 stations since December 2020.
- Total track length extended beyond the initial 9 km with expansions.
- Connects Mairie de Saint-Ouen and Olympiades, with plans to extend to Saint-Denis Pleyel and Orly Airport.
- Capacity of around 40,000 people per hour and direction during peak times with 8-car trains.
Curiosities of Line 14
- Line 14 was the first Paris Metro line built completely from scratch since the 1930s, and it has been fully automated since its inauguration.
- It was known as the MÉTro Est-Ouest Rapide (Météor) project before its opening.
- This line has been used as a model for high capacity and performance by the RATP for international metro system tenders.
- With stations spaced out to allow higher speeds of up to 40 km/h, it is one of the fastest lines in the Paris Metro.
- It is planned that by the 2024 Olympics, the line will extend to Saint-Denis Pleyel and south to Orly Airport, making it the longest line in Greater Paris.
